What will I learn?

1. Introduction and Safety Briefing

  • Introduction to Wing Foiling: Explanation of what wing foiling is and how it differs from other water sports like windsurfing or kiteboarding.
  • Safety Guidelines: Important safety tips, including understanding weather conditions, proper use of safety gear (helmet, buoyancy aid), and self-rescue techniques.

2. Equipment Overview

  • Wing: Explanation of the wing’s components (handles, leading edge, trailing edge) and how to handle it.
  • Board: Introduction to the foil board, its parts (deck, foil, mast), and how to mount and dismount the foil.
  • Other Gear: Overview of additional equipment like the leash, wetsuit, and gloves if needed.

3. Ground Training

  • Wing Handling on Land: Learning to control the wing on land, practicing holding, lifting, and moving it in different wind conditions.
  • Balancing on the Board: Practicing balance on a simulator or directly on the board without the foil, focusing on stance and foot placement.

4. Water Basics

  • Getting Comfortable in the Water: Entering the water with the board and wing, practicing basic maneuvers like knee starts and balancing on the board while holding the wing.
  • Wing Control on Water: Using the wing to propel yourself on the board while kneeling, getting a feel for how the wind affects the wing and your movement.

5. First Flights

  • Standing Up: Transitioning from kneeling to standing on the board while maintaining control of the wing.
  • Basic Sailing: Moving in a straight line, steering the board, and making small turns using the wing.
  • Foiling: Introduction to lifting the board onto the foil, understanding the foil’s behavior, and attempting short flights.

6. Practice and Feedback

  • Controlled Practice: Repeated practice of standing up, balancing, and controlling the wing, with the instructor providing feedback and tips for improvement.
  • Advanced Tips: As you become more comfortable, the instructor may introduce more advanced techniques like tacking, jibing, and pumping the wing to gain speed.
